What began long ago as a low-country breakfast dish for fisherman has gradually risen through the ranks to appear at fine dining restaurants all over country. Like many local seafood-centric dishes, Shrimp & Grits can be found at eateries all over the Greater New Orleans Area, but one of my favorites can only be devoured at La Petite Grocery.

Located on the corner of Magazine and General Pershing Street Uptown, only a hop from Napoleon Avenue, La Petite Grocery was originally a corner grocery dubbed the Central Tea, Coffee & Butter Depot in the late 1800’s. Now co-owned and operated by Chef Justin Devillier, expect to find Southern favorites with a modern flair, like his version of Shrimp & Grits with roasted shiitake mushrooms, smoked bacon, Gulf shrimp, fresh thyme and creamy, stone-ground grits.
