Overnight barbecue at the Southern Food & Beverage Institute

Kim Ranjbar

Bring Teddy, some footed pajamas and your appetite for an intimate, overnight barbecue at the Southern Food & Beverage Museum. Dr. Howard Conyers, a budding rocket scientist with a passion for whole-hog pit barbecue, and Southern Living Magazine columnist Robert Moss will be leading 12 lucky guests in the Gumbo Garden for an all-night, hands-on barbecue cooking demonstration from Friday, November 6th at 9:30pm to 11:00 am the following morning on Saturday, November 7th.

Though it might not sound like the sleepovers you remember from childhood, it sounds like a somewhat debaucherous evening where “overnight guests are promised primitive conditions, plenty of snacks and libations, and a lavish, daybreak, cooked-to-order breakfast.” Who could possibly resist?

You could opt to get tickets for Saturday, November 7th which includes lectures, a panel discussion, a hogs-head auction, free, all-day access to the museum and a taste of the barbecue … but where’s the fun in that?
