The Weekly Dish: Jerk Shrimp Roll from Compère Lapin

Everyone is singing praises for celebrity chef Nina Compton and her new New Orleans restaurant Compère Lapin. Located inside the recently renovated Old No. 77 Hotel & Chandlery, this casual restaurant features exposed-brick walls, tall windows looking out onto the Pizza d’Italia across Tchoupitoulas Street and a uniquely-crafted menu.

While there are other dishes that deserve attention like Curried Goat with plantain gnocchi or the Coconut Tres Leches Cake, it’s highly advisable that you turn your attention to her delectable Shrimp Roll. While Lobster Rolls certainly are common in the Northeastern states, it’s a tad unusual for us to see a version of this way down South. Our own Gulf shrimp are marinated in jerk seasoning, grilled and served on a thick, slightly sweet, hot dog-like bun with pineapple tartar and a fresh coleslaw, and served with house made potato chips.
